Is being a Christian a self help program?
I hear many people say Hell in the Bible is just the grave.
I just read John 3:16 in the Message version of the Bible and he paraphrases eternal life as “full and long life”.
Is there another brand of Christianity popping up that has turned Christianity into a self help program?

It is a die to self program!
no its not a self help program
hell is a real place not the grave
actually it destroys your life which is the overall goal, and death is good, stop being afraid of death like a cow-ard
the man who wrote the message bible,a man named Eugene, re wrote the bible into a context that he thought was correct for our times, so that people could more easily understand it. unfortunately, he mis read quite a few passages, and mis interpreted them. There are many different “brands” of Christianity unfortunately, all varying slightly, but in very big ways. Here is the key elements that are ESSENTIAL, and basically what all christians used to believe, until people started to get different ideas and publish these ideas, just because they wanted people to follow them. And the only way to spend eternity in Heaven instead of hell is to believe in your heart that Jesus is God, that he came down to earth to die on the cross so that he could take upon himself all the sins that I have done and you have done and everybody else has and will ever do, so that we wouldnt have to go to hell because of our sin nature. You must believe that he rose again after 3 days, and ascended to Heaven to be with his Father, and that he went to prepare a place for you, so that when you come, He well be ready for you, and will have a room for you, and a celebrated entrance into Heaven to spend eternity with God, instead of spending eternity in hell with satan. JESUS SAVES, JUST ACCEPT HIS GIFT! ITS FREE!!
“Full and long life” is a misrepresentation of the Bible. To state it briefly, the Message version is an interpretation and not a word-for-word translation. If you don’t know much about that, that is fine, but it actually touches on your last question. Yes, there is another “brand” of Christianity that is popping out there, one that has been watered down. What many new versions try to do is make the Bible more “relevant” and easier to read, but unfortunately, in doing so, they misrepresent what it originally said.
John 3:16, in the original language it was written, explains that the life given by faith in Jesus Christ is one that is everlasting, eternal, and without end. But that faith part needs to be unraveled. Simply “believing in Jesus” will not get you to Heaven and neither will being a good person.
The Bible says that God who created life is holy, holy, holy. And He will one day judge the world in righteousness. And when He judges the world, it’s not going to be by my standard or yours, but His standard is holiness. Having said that, it also states that there is none righteous, because all have sinned…all have missed that standard. And having sinned, the wages of sin is death. So all are guilty in the eyes of God.
And because God is just, He must uphold His law and the judgment of His law. Think about how unsettling it would be if a judge would let murderers, rapists, and felons go free from their sentence; they are bound by the law and have to uphold it. The same way, God will not turn His eye away from the judgment for His law that is broken.
But God having love and compassion for us, came to us in the person of Jesus and who lived a perfect life. The name Jesus means “God saves”. And He lived a perfect life and died upon a cross for your sins and mine, the just for the unjust. He Himself had no sin, but He took our judgment for us.
And by having faith in that, that is, repenting of your sins and believing with the conviction of your heart, you will be granted everlasting life with the escape of that judgment.
Not “full and long life”, because everlasting life is for everyone. The judgment is what separates which side you are on. And that is why you need to trust in Jesus as Savior. Trust Him like you’d trust a parachute, you put it on in truth.
And to briefly touch on the last question: what these new “brands” of Christianity are trying to do is to take away the offense of Christianity. In that, you’re a sinner (everybody yes, but specifically you), and God hates sin and has a holy, righteous, and just judgment again sin. But He also is a God of love, and because He is willing that none perish, He also has provided a way to escape that judgment. And it’s Him that you put your trust in–from this moment now, and as you continue to live life. What the other brands boil down to is they try to put the focus everywhere else but God. When the focus is all about God. Hope this helps.

Nope all christians are just following their conditioning!!
Acceptance of a supernatural claim tends to promote cooperative social relationships. This communication demonstrates a willingness to accept, without skepticism, the influence of the speaker in a way similar to a child’s acceptance of the influence of a parent. By encouraging this kind of behavior where the most intense social relationships occur it facilitates the lack of skepticism and deters more open minded thinking.
They are christian, Muslim or the other religions depending where they were born simply because they were indoctrinated by their parents as very young children. They will go on to indoctrinate their own children and those will go on to indoctrinate their grandchildren!!
Atheists have the intellect to see through the conditioning and escape into the real world!!
Agnostics have the intellect to see through the conditioning but lack the courage to throw of the conditioning entirely.
Sadly Christians are still held firmly prisoner by the self perpetuating brainwashing!!
