“Self-injury is any deliberate, non-suicidal behavior that inflicts physical harm to your body and is aimed at relieving emotional distress. Self-injury is not about the desire to commit suicide, nor is it about seeking attention. It’s about something the person discovered alone, that they found helped them feel better for a time. Approximately 300,000 citizens in United States use physical self-injury as a way of dealing with overwhelming feelings or situations. Self-injury is far from rare and there are many myths and misunderstandings that surround this psychological ailment. The American Self Harm Information Clearinghouse Organization was created to educate and inform medical and mental health professionals, the media and the general public, sorting myth from fact and explaining what is known about self-harm. One of this organization’s projects is Self Injury Awareness Day. It’s designed to help people across the country and the world whose lives have been affected by self-injury. You know that you wouldn’t ignore people with cancer. And you wouldn’t ignore people with AIDS. Then why would you ignore someone that is intentionally hurting their self? Exactly, you wouldn’t. It is up to us to gain to support for these people so we can help them. Self-injury Awareness Day is March 1st. Make it known.”
So you wear:
1. Orange if you are a current self-injurer
2. Orange and white if you are recovering/recovered from self-injury
3. White if you have not self-injured but support others in receiving help

Tonight I stopped by the hideout and picked up The Vital 5 Cookbook and my book writing, art scheming friend Greg, the author, and Jed Dunkerley, the artist, sign my copy.
The cookbook is an instructional art piece daring you to do daring artworks. It’s brilliant.
