The 28-member Mbini self-help group (SHG) in Machakos farms a 4-acre plot where they grow oranges, avocado, vegetables, maize. The group members also have their own plots, do bee keeping, baking of cakes, and rear goats, cattle and chickens. Their challenges are lacking capital to expand and pump water, lacking insurance and storage facilities for their produce.

Mental health group meets once a month
The Champaign County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness meets monthly at Community Elements in downtown Champaign. Chapter president Diane Zell said the group meets on the second Monday of each month at the 202 W. Park Ave., C, office. read more

The Self Help Group of Kothampatti’s (Krishna) hollow brick production unit. The construction of the toilets in Kothampatti created a shortage of raw materials, especially hollow brick. Hence the SHG went to Madhurapuri, Indian Oversees Bank to ask for a loan for putting up a hollow block manufacturing center. They are now thriving by manufacturing hollow blocks.
